DC Power Technician - Telecom
WI - Milwaukee or Madison

*Pay: $24-$28/hr.
*Employment Type: 6-month contract to hire
*Travel: Local/regional travel

Summary:

We're seeking experienced DC Power Technicians to support installation and maintenance of telecom DC power systems. This role involves hands-on work in central office and data environments-installing power distribution equipment, battery plants, UPS systems, and related cabling.



Must-Haves:

  • 4+ years of hands-on DC power or UPS installation and maintenance (telecom, data center, or industrial DC).
  • Experience with battery plants (VRLA, flooded, or Ni-Cad) and distribution equipment (BDFB, BDCBB).
  • Experience with heavy cables, proper lug crimping, fiber protection, and cable sewing/lacing.
  • Familiar with electrical drawings/line diagrams and test tools such as DVM, DLRO, hydrometer, load bank, oscilloscope, MK4.
  • Strong focus on safety, workmanship, and attention to detail in active telecom environments.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally within WI.


Daily Responsibilities:

  • Install, upgrade, and replace DC power systems: rectifiers/chargers, UPS, batteries, distribution (PBD, BDFB, BDCBB), and associated ironwork or cable rack.
  • Run, lace, and terminate power, ground, and alarm cabling; crimp lugs, label, and route neatly.
  • Follow all safety procedures-including asbestos awareness, fire-stopping standards, and jobsite material handling.
  • Secure large-gauge cable correctly to racks and supports; maintain proper spacing per spec.
  • Take precautions when working near live network equipment and respond appropriately to any alarms or site issues.
  • Verify installations meet customer specifications and document site progress.
  • Support the Lead Installer with material tracking, testing, and closeout activities.

Travel/Per-diem:

  • Occasional travel away from home will be required.
  • Per-diem will be provided when traveling 65 miles or more, at $130/day with additional allowance to expense mileage.
  • Company vehicle will not be provided.
