Project Planner - Remote Working - Inside IR35

Our client, a global consultancy, are currently looking to hire a Project Planner to join the team on a remote working contract basis. This role would be largely remote working, with possible travel on a rare occasion for team meetings.

In this role you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and assuring integrated plans that enable effective delivery of projects and programmes. The role ensures planning standards are applied, dependencies are understood and managed, schedule risks are visible, and progress is accurately reported to support on-time, on-budget, and in-control delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrated project/programme schedule(s) with logic, milestones, and baselines
  • Stage/phase plans and rolling-wave plans
  • Critical path and dependency analysis outputs
  • Lookahead plans and near-term delivery plans
  • Schedule performance reports (variance, trends, forecasts)
  • Scenario plans / recovery plans
  • Planning assumptions, constraints and planning approach documentation
  • Planning inputs to RAID, governance packs, and stakeholder reporting

Technical Skills:

  • Strong scheduling discipline: WBS, baselining, critical path, float, logic ties, progress rules.
  • Practical understanding of delivery frameworks (e.g., waterfall, agile, hybrid) and how planning adapts across them.
  • Ability to translate scope into workable activity structures with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Comfortable working with uncertain/iterative scope using rolling-wave planning.

Proficiency in one or more of:

  • Microsoft Project (desktop/online), or equivalent scheduling tool
  • Excel (advanced), Power BI (desirable)
  • RAID / PMO tooling (e.g., Planner Premium desirable)

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience planning and controlling schedules in a project, programme, or portfolio environment.
  • Experience working across multiple workstreams and with third parties/suppliers (desirable).
  • Experience supporting governance reporting and senior stakeholder forums.
  • Understanding of risk management and how it integrates with planning.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • APM / PRINCE2 / MSP / PMI (or similar) desirable
  • Planning / controls qualifications (e.g., AACE, Planning & Scheduling certifications) desirable
